My name is Abigail Nelson. I am a registered dramatherapist based in Edinburgh, Scotland. I provide one-to-one, in person therapy for adults, couples and teenagers at A Quiet Room by the Shore. I currently have availability on Fridays.
Dramatherapy is creative psychotherapy. You don’t need any experience or skills in drama or the arts, and it is not like a drama class. Dramatherapy can look like regular talking therapy, however I am also trained to equip you with other, more creative ways of expressing yourself and exploring your world. We might create characters and stories to explore the different versions of yourself, the different people in your life or your life experiences at a safe distance. We might use art or music to express what something is like for you. Or you might use your body or objects to show me how you’re feeling rather than telling me with words. We can also draw on meditation, play and myth. Sometimes, for whatever reason, we don’t want to talk about it, or we can’t. That’s okay. In dramatherapy you can achieve deep and lasting transformation with or without words.
I also run creative wellness retreats, workshops, events and projects. I am passionate about creating spaces for people to foster deep and soulful connection with themselves and others. In my work I draw on story and myth, nature, meditation, symbol and metaphor, art-making and embodiment to create a unique creative language with each client to explore their inner world.
