Even as a young girl, I thought that a lot of diseases are “self-inflicted” because of the way we treat our bodies. I used to say to friends and family that food, what we eat, how much we eat and how we prepare it, was the major cause of cancer, diabetes, heart disease and more.
I grew up on a farm, in a household where we cooked every day. Mostly our food came from our farm garden and our meat came from either venison, a local farmer or farm butchery. This was the norm for us. So, cooking our fresh food and daily preparing of wholesome meals was what I learned from a young age. Fresh real food!
Nutrition has therefore been something I have always had an interest in.
Essentially, nutrition is the process of providing ones body with the food necessary for health and growth. It is what keeps the inside of our bodies functional, healthy and in the best shape they can be. I believe it is as important, if not more important, than the outside of our bodies. Having Balance is looking after both but… What is the use of having fantastic looking aesthetics if the internal workings are faulty and likely to breakdown?
Food is fuel for the body but whether is runs well or runs badly depends entirely on the quality of the fuel you provide.
People seek nutritional advice for various reasons; some to manage dietary problems eg bloating, acid reflux, IBS, weight control. Some to manage disease and medical conditions so as to be as healthy as they can within the parameters and restrictions of the specific condition. Some, unfortunately too few, as a preventative measure to ensure health and be disease free into advanced years.
I provide personalised, bespoke nutritional plans with education, advice and support in all my programmes. I do not do ‘one-size-fits-all’ plans and diet sheets because every single person is unique and I believe that a dietary plan and menu needs to fit your lifestyle, your choices and be sustainable.
I also run a “Healthy real food = Healthy Life” monthly subscription club as preventative ‘medicine’ to teach the benefits of eating good quality whole foods so as to prevent the above diseases and conditions by fighting off inflammation and toxins that build up from eating factory produced ‘non-foods’ full of additives and preservatives. You may as well live in a room of formaldehyde!
Nutritional therapy, diet and lifestyle changes are not quick fixes, they require determination, planning, a can-do attitude and need to not create dramatic and disruptive instant changes to your way of life. Taking back control of your health is a process and needs to be tackled step by step.
My mission is to help you back to health; help you find your own personal balance through impartial, evidence-based science and through nutritional and naturopathic means.
I have a special interest in helping you build a strong immune system as this is the essential disease fighting system in the human body. The Immune system is your security system and within the parameters of a strong healthy immune system based on good nutrition and essential supplementation, comes the special interest of working with clients with Diabetes, Cancer and Heart Disease.
All of these diseases are considered progressive and incurable. Traditional Medicine does not take into account the damage caused to the immune system in the process of treating them with harsh drugs and procedures and neither does it give you the information or education to counteract these treatments by supporting the body with good nutrition thereby giving it a better chance to withstand and possibly recover.
