When life’s road feels bumpier and then bumpier again therapy can shine a light on the causes and the best way forward.
I will provide a safe, warm confidential environment, where we will identify, explore and work through what’s troubling you. Through our relationship and by working together we will discover and develop new ways of approaching life that will serve you better–ways which are less compromised by the past.
I work mainly with a psychodynamic approach, recognising that current distress and experiences may be influenced by early life experiences. This approach allows you to understand yourself at a deeper level rather than purely seeking symptom relief. In turn this can lead to a greater self awareness and new ways of thinking, behaving and relating.
It can feel difficult to make the first call. However, do not let this put you off taking the first step. Allowing yourself the freedom to speak to a Counsellor is the healthiest, most constructive thing you can do for yourself and the people who matter to you.
After an initial conversation on the telephone, I offer a consultation interview which lasts 50 minutes. The consultation will provide an opportunity, for us both, to explore your difficulties and decide what is the best way forward and to see if we can work together. Sometimes we may meet more than once before deciding whether to begin therapy or not. There is no commitment to engage in therapy at this stage whether you want to proceed is entirely your decision.
If we do agree to continue we would meet once a week for 50 minutes on an agreed day and time. It is difficult to predict how long therapy will last. Some focused difficulties are more suitable for short term therapy, which usually last 12 weeks, other difficulties are more suitable for long term therapy. We can discuss which option will suit you best at the initial consultation. I work from both Muswell Hill and East Finchley.
