dancingTao is an invitation to use movement as meditation.
We use the maps of 5Rhythms, Movement Medicine and other practices, including the emerging dancingTao pathways, to cultivate presence, connection and transformation through movement.
dancingTao offers a number of different ways to dance and to explore ecstatic dance as a meditation and spiritual practice. Sweaty Thursdays and other classes are the places to start for anyone new to this work, whilst the longer Workshops and Ongoing Groups offer a more in-depth forum to journey and use the dance as a tool for growth and evolution. World Works presents other events and creative experiments, and Ecstasy Radio is a podcast offered as a musical resource for dancers.
CLASSES
Drop-in classes are the easiest way to dip a toe in the waters of the dance and see how it is. They’re mostly held in the evenings and last a couple of hours. No experience or booking necessary; just come along and move.
Current Classes:
SWEATY THURSDAYS
weekly drop-in class with Christian de Sousa in Vauxhall, using a mixture of 5R and MM maps.
MOONDAY NIGHT FEVER
Movement Medicine space with Cyrill Chanterau twice a month in Paddington on Monday nights.
MEN/WOMEN’S SPACES
The Full Moon Dances are separate 5Rhythms dance spaces for men and for women, held by a rotating collective of male/female 5Rhythms teachers respectively. Both space were initiated and held for many years by Christian (men) and Chloe (women) and have expanded into collectively-held projects in 2011.
Dancing with just men or women is a liberating experience which allows for the exploration of all sorts of energies and experiences not available in a mixed space.
Men
Men’s Dances
Men’s dance events. Contact Jason Rowejason.rowe@hotmail.com
Women
FULL MOON DANCES FOR WOMEN
Women’s dances are held by a collective of women teachers on or close to the time of the full moon, at St Peter’s Church in Vauxhall. Contact Nikki for up-to-date info: nikki@dancingtao.net
WORKSHOPS
Workshops and intensives (anything from an afternoon to a full weekend or several days) offer an expanded space to dive deep into the dance, learn the practices, and cultivate ways to use and integrate the dance in everyday life. Prior experience of 5Rhythms or Movement Medicine is generally an advantage, and sometimes a prerequisite.
ONGOING GROUPS
Ongoing groups are a forum to engage with the dance on a deeper level. We explore the practices of 5Rhythms, Movement Medicine and other pathways as maps to dance, consciousness and life, and there’s a strong focus on evolving community.
Current Ongoing Group:
MEDICINE CIRCLE MONTHLIES
Medicine Circles are longer depth dances with a focus on movement practice, dancing ceremony and community evolution.
The invitation is to commit to coming every month and explore being part of a fluid community that also dances and connects at other times. As and when places are available, the sessions are open to other dancers from the community and wider networks.
Dancers need a minimum experience of 25 hours of taught practice with certified 5Rhythms, Movement Medicine, Open Floor or Soul Motion teachers.
Advance booking required; priority is given to dancers committing to dancing with the circle regularly.
Please contact Margarita if you are interested in joining the circle.
These are three-hour sessions and the focus will alternate between (1) structured movement practice (5Rhythms / Movement Medicine / dancingTao), (2) dancing ceremonies at the time of the equinoxes and solstices, and (3) more experimental sessions using movement to work with collective process and themes that are live in the wider field. The sessions are held by Christian with a dancingTao support team.
All dancers with the pre-requisite experience welcome.
